UN condemns Saudi air strikes Prison collapse in Yemen leaves more than 70 dead
On January 22, the AFP news agency reported that At least 70 people have been killed in air strikes by Saudi-led coalition forces. Bombardment of a prison in Sada which is the stronghold of the Houthi rebels in Yemen on Friday (21 Jan) in the past UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres immediately condemned the attack.

Iran-backed Houthi rebels Video footage of the horrifying incident has been released, showing dozens of people trapped beneath the rubble and crushed by the attack.

Allied forces led by Saudi Arabia It issued a statement denying that airstrikes were not carried out on the prison.

Saudi news agency quoted Turki al-Malki, a spokesman for the coalition, as saying that reports of it aiming at rebel-held sites are completely unfounded and baseless.


The prison is not on the list of no-attacks agreed with the UN Humanitarian Affairs Office's mechanism in Yemen and has not been reported by the International Committee of the Red Cross. Al Makhi said coalition forces would share facts and details. as well as misinformation from the media about the said location to both agencies.

The UN secretary-general condemned the attacks and said the escalation of violence was necessary. He also called for an investigation into the attack.
